About
IranMonitor

IranMonitor is an independent, real-time monitoring and intelligence hub launched in January 2026. It was built in a matter of days following the brutal crackdown on Iranian citizens by the Islamic Republic.

Our Mission
Less noise.
More clarity.

Helping Iranians and non-Iranians understand what is happening, with curated, contextualised information.

We are bombarded by information from different channels, and there is also a significant amount of misinformation and disinformation produced by groups affiliated with different actors. IranMonitor aggregates, organises, and contextualises this information so our audience can follow developments with more confidence.

Beyond Crisis Monitoring

What IranMonitor Includes

The Memorial Hub

A memorial dedicated to the victims of the January 2026 massacre. We document names and stories so people are not reduced to statistics.

Global Solidarity Map

A directory of protests and rallies happening worldwide in support of the Iranian people.

Action Center

A curated list of petitions and ways to support the cause, including petitions sourced from platforms like Change.org.

Methodology

How IranMonitor Works

We are primarily an information aggregator and organiser. We try to reflect what is being said and done by pulling together data and presenting it in a navigable way.

Automated Gathering

We pull data from a wide range of sources, including international news organisations and public social media channels (X, Telegram, and Instagram).

AI-Assisted Processing

We use AI to deduplicate reports, summarise long-form content, translate Farsi updates for a global audience, and categorise events by region and type.

Community Feedback

AI is not perfect, and neither are sources. We treat automation as a tool for structure, not a guarantee of accuracy. We rely on a small team and community reports to flag issues and improve the feed.

Team

Who is Behind IranMonitor?

IranMonitor was founded and is funded by a small group of Iranian technology entrepreneurs. We have no political or organisational affiliations, and we do not accept corporate or government funding.

The project has been self-funded so far, and community contributions help us keep it running sustainably.

Transparency

Transparency and Costs

Developing and running IranMonitor costs money. As of February 1st 2026, our monthly operating costs are approximately $2,000, which primarily covers:

  • X API subscription, hosting, and data storage
  • AI processing for summarisation and translation
  • News subscriptions to bypass paywalls and provide full context
Community Support

Donations

As of February 2026, we have received approximately $2,060 in donations. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported the project.

We are currently migrating to GoFundMe to improve transparency and accountability around donations.

Safety First

Privacy and Safety

We try to minimise risk for people on the ground. We avoid sharing personal identifiers and sensitive details, and we remove identifying information from user-submitted reports where possible.

If you believe something on IranMonitor could put someone at risk, please contact us immediately so we can review it.

What's Next

The Roadmap

Our roadmap is evolving quickly, but some key upcoming features include:

Farsi Language Support

A full Farsi-language version of the site, since an English-only website may not be accessible to many inside Iran.

Source Directory

A clearer, categorised directory of monitored sources (activists, journalists, organisations) for better source-tracing.

Mobile & Social

A mobile app for IranMonitor, plus a more active social media presence to improve accessibility and resilience.
